About Us :: Connie Carpenter
Connie Carpenter:
Connie is best known for winning the 1984 Olympic Road Race on July 29th, 1984. She retired from competition on July 30, 1984. Prior to that, she competed in the 1972 Winter Olympics (speed skating) as a teenager, and is one of a handful of two sport Olympians. She was a national crew champion while at UC-Berkeley. Connie notes, "crew is the only sport where you sit down and go backwards." Connie has a master's degree in science, she co-authored "Training for Cycling" with Davis, and she enjoys her role as an ambassador for cycling. Currently her passions include whimsical painting in her studio at home. Take a look at some of Connie's art which she does strictly for fun and 'color therapy.' "Painting reminds me a lot of cycling, repetition brings mastery but there's vast terrain to explore." Connie is President and chief architect of the Carpenter/Phinney Bike Camps, which were founded in 1986. The Camps were created to address the information void that many cyclists experience. Today the camps offer a lot more than information; they offer kinship, great rides and a first-class vacation in all the hot cycling meccas. We've evolved over the years and mellowed along with many of our clientele to where we favor big rides, good food, and great company in a relaxed, scenic environment. And that's the essence of bike camp. "As much as I know Bike Camps have been good for our clients over the past twenty years, I can tell you that the camps have also been extremely wonderful for us. We love our clientele, we love cycling, and we enjoy travel." Connie and Davis are married and have two children, Taylor (now 16) and Kelsey (almost 13).
